A Tamarindo Villa for Large Groups: How to Host up to 20 Guests

The hardest part of a group trip is finding a place that keeps everyone together without anyone feeling squeezed. Four separate houses on one private estate solve it.

Anyone who has organised a group trip knows the problem. A hotel scatters the group across corridors and floors, and you end up meeting in the lobby. A single huge house puts twenty people under one roof, with one kitchen, one living room and a queue for everything.

After hosting families, multi-generational groups and friends celebrating together, we have learned what works: generous shared spaces for the moments together, and a door of your own for everything else.

One estate, four private houses

Cocoon Luxury Estate is a gated property in the hills above Tamarindo, about 1.2 km from the beach. Four independent houses are spread through tropical gardens, and every one of them has ocean views:

  • Villa Cocoon — the heart of the estate. Five bedrooms for up to 10 guests, a gourmet kitchen, a long dining table and an infinity pool facing the Pacific.
  • Casa Cocoon — two king suites for up to 4 guests, an open-plan living room and kitchen, and a terrace with a jacuzzi and a swing.
  • The Nest — our treehouse-style bungalow with thatched domes and curved glass walls. Two bedrooms for up to 4 guests and a private jacuzzi.
  • La Casita — a cosy one-bedroom house for 2, with a king bed and an ocean-view terrace.

Together they add up to 10 bedrooms, two pools and two jacuzzis for up to 20 guests. Book the Full Estate and the only people on the property are your group and our team.

Why separate houses work better for groups

Together, without being on top of each other. Breakfast can be a big, noisy affair at the Villa — or a quiet coffee on your own terrace. Nobody has to choose between the group and a bit of peace.

Different rhythms, no friction. Toddlers wake at six, teenagers sleep until noon and grandparents like an afternoon nap. With four houses, every family keeps its own routine.

Room for the big moments. A welcome dinner around the Villa table, a sunset swim in the infinity pool, a chef's dinner for twenty on the terrace: the estate is designed for the moments that bring a group together.

One team looking after everyone. Instead of each family organising its own transfers, dinners and tours, our concierge handles it for the whole group.

Who sleeps where: combinations that work

The four houses can be booked on their own or combined, so the estate adapts to the size and shape of your group:

  • The family reunion, up to 20 guests. The main families share Villa Cocoon, the grandparents take Casa Cocoon (close to the action, with their own terrace and jacuzzi), a couple escapes to The Nest and the youngest adults claim La Casita.
  • Two families travelling together, up to 14 guests. Villa Cocoon plus Casa Cocoon: each family with its own kitchen, living room and pool time.
  • A group of couples, up to 10 guests. Casa Cocoon, The Nest and La Casita: three houses, five bedrooms and an ocean view for every couple.
  • A milestone birthday or friends' trip, up to 20 guests. The Full Estate, with the Villa as the meeting point and everyone else spread across the other three houses.

What our concierge can arrange for the group

  • Airport transfers from Liberia (LIR), about an hour away, or San José (SJO), timed to everyone's flights.
  • Grocery pre-stocking, so the kitchens are full when you arrive.
  • Private chef dinners for the whole group, from a relaxed barbecue to a multi-course menu with local ingredients.
  • Baby and kids' equipment, including cribs, high chairs and pool floats.
  • Group activities: a private catamaran, surf lessons for every level, horseback rides and day trips to the volcano.
  • Celebrations: decorations, cake, flowers, live music, a fire show and a photographer for the group portrait.
  • Laundry service, so everyone can pack light.

Planning tips for a group trip to Tamarindo

  1. Book early for high season. December to April fills up months ahead — especially Christmas, New Year and Easter — and minimum stays of 5 to 7 nights may apply.
  2. Agree the room plan before you arrive. Send us the list of who is coming and we will suggest how to split the houses, so nobody has to negotiate on arrival day.
  3. Plan one or two "everyone together" moments. A welcome dinner on the first night and a sunset sail or chef's dinner mid-week give the trip a shape, and leave the rest of the days free.
  4. Think vans, not convoys. A private transfer from the airport plus one or two rental cars is usually far simpler than five separate cars.
  5. Keep an eye on the little ones. The estate has two pools, and we always recommend adult supervision for children.
